What Are Cookies

Cookies are small strings of text that the websites visited by the user send to his or her browser where they are stored to be reused by the same websites during the same session or the subsequent visit by the same user.

While browsing a website, the user’s browser may also receive cookies sent from different websites or web servers (called “third parties").

The cookies are used for different purposes such as execution of digital authentication, session monitoring, storage of information on specific configurations concerning the users who access the server, storage of preferences, etc.

Depending on the relative purpose, the cookies are categorized as technical cookies, first or third party analytical cookies or first or third party profiling cookies.

Technical cookies, subdivided into browsing or session cookies, are the ones used to guarantee browsing and operation of the website and the services requested by the user; they are not used for other purposes and are normally installed directly by the website manager (no previous consent is required from the website users); without the use of these cookies, some operations may not be performed or would be more complex and/or less secure.
